Few, if any, African countries have as rich and decorated boxing tradition as Ghana. Legends of the past quickly come to mind, but the future is also bright for the sport in the west African republic, with many talented up-and-comers.

One of those is current Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-Africa Welterweight champion Sampson Segbedzi (7-0, 6 KOs), who is considered top of the pile. The following is a quick Q & A with the undefeated 24-year-old.

What was it like winning the UBO All-Africa title in front of your fans in Accra (on March 5), headlining a show for the first time?

Winning the UBO title in front of my fans, in my home-town, was absolutely breathtaking and a very happy moment for me.

You are considered one of the most promising talents in Ghanaian boxing. How do you handle that extra pressure?

I handle that pressure by always being in shape. Because I know that challenges from opponents are always near.

Do you have a boxing idol, someone you look up to as a boxer?

Yes I do, that's Floyd Mayweather.

How would you describe your boxing style?

My style is hit and don't get hit style!

When can we expect to see you back in the ring?

We are planning for a date in June, where I will hopefully defend my UBO title for the first time.
