Almost
fourteen years removed from
making his professional debut, the slick
southpaw had won national and African titles,
and curiously enough also the Pan Asian Boxing
Association title, fighting from Middleweight to
Heavyweight.
Outside
of his native Tanzania, Marwa had only lost to
some of the best in Europe, including Alexei
Trofimov (21-1), Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (26-1),
Pietro Aurino (30-2) and Dawid Kostecki (18-0),
always giving the local favourites a run for
their money.
And he
was not matched easy the night he became UBO
champion, as his opponent was “Big Joe” Mwale
(14-3, 5 KOs) from Malawi, a confident man
coming off six straight victories and a tricky
costumer in his own right.

At the DDC
Magomeni Kondoa Hall in Dar Es Salaam, Marwa faced
some difficulties in taking control of the fight,
but eventually rallied to stop Mwale in the
seventh round, improving his record to 22-11-1
(5).
Aside from
defeating Lolenga Mock (17-0) early in his career,
Mikhail Balovnev (7-4) in Russia in 2004 and
Tanzanian legend Rachid Matumla (42-11-2) in 2010,
the victory over Mwale was one of the best in
Marwa´s accomplished campaign.
Unfortunately it would also prove to be the last
big roar for “The Hungry Lion”, as he went 2-10-1
in his remaining thirteen outings, seven of the
losses coming abroad, and retired in 2013 with a
24-21-2 (7) record.
