Petranyi (51-20, 16 KOs), something of an ageless
wonder in the sport at 48, won the UBO European
title in January of 2011, and has since fended off
four much younger challengers, three by way of
stoppage inside five rounds.
Tamaititahio (5-1, 3 KOs), a holder of a French
passport, captured the International crown this
past April at the Salle Louis Babo in the city of
Papeete, and now he is set to square off with
Petranyi at the same venue, and in front of a
partisan home-town crowd.
But going into his opponents back-yard will be
nothing new to Petranyi, who has already boxed in
no less than fourteen different countries and
taken on some of Europe’s, if not the worlds, best
heavyweights since turning pro in 1996.
He will obviously have a clear advantage in
experience, and it remains to be seen if the
comfort of fighting at home will be an advantage
or a disadvantage for Tamaititahio, who is no
spring chicken himself at 39 years of age.
