Undefeated Algerian Djamel “King” Dahou is the new UBO World Welterweight Champion, after he captured the vacant title on Friday night (September 12) with a first round demolition of local man Said Yazidu at the YMCA Hall in Moshi, Tanzania.

Yazidu had challenged Dahou to fight him so he could restore pride for his country after Dahou beat his countryman Hamis Ajali last year, but it was not to be, as the visitor proved too strong, hungry and powerful for the more experienced man.

Dahou started the fight fast, and quickly managed to cut the ring off and land his quick combinations on Yazidu, who seemed surprised by his opponents speed and aggressiveness. Midway through the round, Dahou caught Yazidu with a perfect right hook, almost knocking him out of the ring.

Yazidu beat the referees count, but when the action continued he immediately went on the attack and landed another beautiful hook, this time a left, flooring the Tanzanian again. A badly hurt Yazidu was not able to beat the second ten-count, and the fight was waved over at 2:23 of the first round.

At the tender age of 22 years and three months, Dahou, is the youngest ever UBO World Champion and proved that he is truly the King of Africa. His professional record improves to 12-0 (11), while Yazidu falls to 29-13-1 (14) after what was his third attempt to win a world title.

I am so happy and so proud”, said an elated Dahou after the fight. “We traveled to my opponents back-yard and won the biggest fight of my life, and I made my dream come true. I could not have done this without the support of the Algerian people, and I dedicate this world championship to them, and to my country.”

Tanzanian boxing fans did get something to celebrate, as Moshi´s own Alibaba Ramadhani won the vacant UBO All-Africa Super Middleweight title by defeating Alick Mwenda from Malawi in the evenings second championship bout.

Ramadhani, the reigning Tanzanian national champion, boxed well and had too much skill for his game opponent, and after ten rounds of boxing he was awarded a deserved unanimous decision. Ramadhani took his record to 12-9 (5), and Mwenda drops to 7-7 (2).

The show was promoted by Green Hils Promotion, headed by Andrew George.
