Lauren faced strong and tough South African
Champion Esther Mashiya, but proved to be at
another level than her game challenger. Lauren
took control from the first round, and frequently
connected with perfectly-timed combinations on her
way to a wide unanimous decision.
After eight rounds of boxing (distance due to
Swedish law not allowing ten rounds), judges
Andreas Stenberg, Ake Johansson and Hakan
Sindemark scored the fight in favor of the
reigning champion with scores of 79-73, 79-73 and
80-72. Referee was Michael Hook.
“I have never fought anyone who could take this
much punishment”, said a relieved and happy Lauren
after the fight. “Already after two rounds my
knuckles were hurting (from connecting on Mashiya),
and I was thinking about the fact that there was
still six rounds to go.” |

“I thought she was about to go in round five,
but then she came back strong. I tried to get
her out of there in round six, seven and eight
too, but she was just impossible to get rid of.”
Lauren, who was also the promoter of the show,
improved her impressive professional record to
21-3 (8). Mashiya, S.A. national champion at
Super Middle, Middle and Super Welterweight,
travels home at 9-5-2 (1).
On the undercard, former UBO World Featherweight
Champion Abdu Tebazalwa returned to action after
almost five years of inactivity. Tebazalwa
(13-6, 10 KOs), a Ugandan based in Sweden,
scored a unanimous decision over four rounds
against former Venezuelan champion Franklin
Varela.
