After two planned defenses were called off at the last minute earlier this year, Universal Boxing Organization™ World Lightweight Champion Mason Menard should now be set to make his second title defense on October 5 at the Civic Center in Houma, Louisiana.

Menard was originally all set to defend against David Torres on June 28, but Torres pulled out only a few days before the fight-date.

Then August 24 was scheduled, but BoxnCar Promotions was later informed that the venue they believed they had a firm deal with had double-booked, forcing them to make a second cancellation.

Promoter Chad Broussard has announced that Menard (25-1, 18 KOs) will face an opponent to be confirmed on October 5, but that a verbal agreement has been made and that he is waiting to receive the signed contract before revealing the name.

Menard won the UBO World title in August 2011 with a fourth round stoppage of Ghanaian Joseph Laryea, and successfully defended in June 2012 with another impressive performance against Lonnie Smith, scoring a convincing unanimous decision.

The 24-year-old from Rayne, Louisiana, around 100 miles from Houma, has won five non title bouts since the Smith defense, four of them inside the distance, and is reportedly very eager to finally return to the ring in a championship fight.

BoxnCar Promotions is working on putting together a quality undercard to support the main event, featuring some of Louisiana’s many bright prospects.
