It appeared to be a fifty-fifty fight on paper, but surprisingly ended quickly when Italians Damiano Raguso and Patrizio Manzoli squared off for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Mediterranean Super Welterweight title on Saturday night, June 21.

At the Palatorrino in Rome, both men entered the ring with confidence from their last performances, and it was a match-up between two boxers with momentum.

Raguso was coming off a win in April, and Manzoli scored a draw in a non-title fight against UBO Mediterranean Middleweight champion Tiziano Barilotti, also in April, but it was Raguso who made the most of it.

Looking composed and strong from the first bell, Raguso quickly found his range and realized he could hurt Manzoli to the body, and after a couple of well-placed shots downstairs he overwhelmed Manzoli with a flurry that prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight already in the first round.

It was an impressive performance from 31-year-old Raguso, who won his first professional title and improved his record to 5-4-1 (2). Manzoli is now 5-4-1 (1).

The fight was one of the featured bouts of a show promoted by former WBA world champion Giovanni De Carolis and his De Carolis Promotions.
