Home-town
hero, and former Italian champion, Catalin
Ionescu (14-3-1, 5 KOs) is slated to face
Colombian Diego Lagos (11-3, 5 KOs) in what
should be a spectacular night of boxing at the
Stadio Di Lastra A Signa.
“Marble
Man” Ionescu, born in Romania, made his
professional debut in 2017, and was 12-2-1 when
he made his breakthrough in 2022 by beating
Nicola Henchiri for the Italian national title.
That
victory landed him a shot at the European title
in May of 2023, where he lost a close decision
to undefeated Juanfe Gomez in Spain.

Last
October he returned with a routine victory, and he
is now ready for another championship opportunity
against the tough Lagos.
Diego Lagos
lost his pro debut in 2018, but then won his next
eleven fights before he had to retire injured
after five rounds against Spaniard Salvador
Jimenez last April.
Before that
he had done well enough to earn another big fight,
as he took on former European champion Faroukh
Kourbanov on June 22, acquitting himself well
before losing on points in Belgium.
A big
turn-out is expected, and local boxing fans can
look forward to a fight between two hungry
fighters who are eager to show that they have much
more to give.
