Menard, Altunkaya, Kwadjo, Lacy, Jacobus & Cheka...

UBO - Universal Boxing Organization™
"Rock Hard Mighty" Mason Menard, the UBO All-America Lightweight Champion, improved his record to 14-1 (12) on Dedember 2nd at the Hilton Towers in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Menard knocked out Dedrick Bell in the seventh round of a scheduled eight-round main event of promoter Chad Broussard´s “Heat at the Hilton” show. Broussard is hoping to stage a defense of the UBO title for Menard early next year.

Bad” Chad Broussard, many will remember, was a good professional boxer himself, and only retired from the ring three years ago to concentrate on training, managing and promoting.

Making his debut in 1989, he compiled an impressive 56-5 (40) pro record, and fought big names such as Sharmba Mitchell and Meldrick Taylor.

UBO Youth Cruiserweight Champion Hizni Altunkaya (14-0, 8 KOs) had to pull out of a non-title fight scheduled for December 4, when he was involved in a car accident on his way to training. Altunkaya is reportedly okay, but was never the less injured to such an extent that boxing on December 4 was out of the question. The UBO wishes him a speedy and full recovery.

The UBO Inter-Continental Super Middleweight title is now vacant, as Fiji-based Nigerian Joseph Kwadjo (20-4, 15 KOs) has no concrete plans of defending the title in the near future. Kwadjo won the title in December 2009, beating Zulfikar Joy Ali by unanimous decision at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. Fiji.

UBO All-America Lightweight Champion Mason Menard.

That victory inspired London-based media company IMG World to do a documentary on Kwadjo, eventually to hit TV screens across Europe, Australia, Africa, Canada and the USA. Kwadjo went on to score another big victory four months later when he stopped former WBA world title challenger Jamie Pittman in Australia.

The Universal Boxing Organization™ wants to thank Joseph Kwadjo for his time representing the UBO.

The latest (as far as we know) in a long line of interviews with former world champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy leading up to his UBO International title fight on Saturday (December 11) comes from Doghouseboxing.com. A nice little quote from the interview: Lacy speaking about his trademark left hook: “That’s my Bailout”…

An announcement is expected soon on the next defense of UBO World Super Middleweight Champion Kali Jacobus. The plan was originally for Jacobus to defend this fall, but unforeseen circumstances unfortunately made this impossible. UBO Oceania Commissioner Reginald Leca is currently in Vanuatu finalizing details with the promoter.

UBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Champion Francis Cheka (20-6-1, 13) has a non-title fight scheduled with local rival Mada Maugo (11-5, 7 KOs) on January 1 in Dar Es Salaam. Cheka last defended his UBO title this past September, scoring a shut-out over Ugandan Med Sebyala.
