TWO UBO WORLD TITLE FIGHTS IN UGANDA 12.22

Promoter Eddie Basajja Basira will present a spectacular event on December 22 at the Nakivubo Stadium in Ugandan capital Kampala, headlined by two Universal Boxing Organization world title fights. At lightweight 16-1 Peter “Boyz Boyz” Semo fights Tanzanian warrior Chaurembo Palasa, 16-13, and at featherweight Abdul “Cobra” Tebazalwa, 9-2, will be in with the vastly more experienced Obote “The Thunder” Ameme, 33-16-2, also from Tanzania.

The promotion is dubbed “Battle of the champs”, and will feature and African title fight on the undercard, with additional local talent rounding out the card.

25 year old Peter Semo is a former Ugandan super featherweight and lightweight champion, and lost a spirited effort to win the WBA Inter-continental light welterweight crown last month in Italy. Now back at his natural weight, he will be aiming to defeat Palasa in impressive style on home ground.

Former two-time Tanzanian and IBF African champion Palasa is coming off a decision-defeat to another Ugandan in Uganda, former world champion Justin Juuko, so he is well-acquainted with the territory he is re-entering. After coming up short in IBF, British Empire, UBO and WBO title tilts, he could be facing his last chance in “The Big Time”, and should turn up hungry and determined not to leave Kampala a looser again.

In his two most recent bouts in Europe, Abdul “Cobra” Tebazalwa was in with world class competition, and proved his own calibre in loosing closedecisions to Mongolian Choi Tseveenpurev for the WBF world title, and later to South African contender Tshifhiwa Munyai. Now Tebazalwa has home-advantage, and will do everything in his power to make it third-time-lucky against Ameme and add the UBO world title belt to a collection which already consists of Ugandan and African titles.

Veteran campaigner Obote Ameme has amazed no less than 51 professional bouts since turning professional in 1998. He has boxed all over the world, including Australia, Spain, the Philippines and several times in Thailand on his way to what is his second crack at a world title. In 2005 he lost a bid against Spaniard Sergio Blanco for the TWBA version, but will be entering the ring against Tebazalwa boasting confidence well aware that experience is on his side.

It promises to be an exiting night on Kampala on December 22nd with two new Universal Boxing Organization world champions crowned. May the best men win.
