2009 turned out to be another year of
progress for the Universal Boxing
Organization. It was a year with many
exciting fights, and new top-class boxers
fought for UBO titles all over the world.

Intercontinental super
middleweight title.
UBO Oceania Commissioner
Reginald Leca called Kwadjo
vs. Ali a fantastic fight,
and one of the best he has
worked. Well-matched,
competitive and entertaining
from start to finish, it is
the UBO’s 2009 Fight Of The
Year, and a rematch is
certainly an interesting
option.

Hamza Issa
World Welterweight Champion.
Cameroon’s Hamza Issa (16-6-4)
put on an impressive display of
technique and power when he
dismantled Frenchman Fredric
Tripp in a bout for the UBO
world welterweight title at the
Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in
Yaounde in July. Issa’s
charisma, exiting style and
fanatic following makes him the
UBO’s New Champion of the year.

Kim Poulsen
Won Intercontinental Lightweight
Title.
22-year old lightweight Kim
Poulsen (12-1) won the UBO
Intercontinetal title in June,
pulverizing the much more
experienced Obote Ameme from
Tanzania in two rounds.
Supervisor for the bout, UBO
president Joerg Herzog,
described Poulsen’s performance
as “very impressive and
promising”, and the Dane is the
UBO’s 2009 prospect of the
year.

Cheka vs. Tavares & Matumla vs.
Omondi.
Joseph Kusaga and his Prime Time
Promotions is the UBO promoter
of the year, due to his
promotion on December 19 in Dar
Es Salaam, Tanzania, featuring
two UBO title fights. On that
card Francis Cheka (19-6-1)
defended his Intercontinental
middleweight title against Isak
Tavares from Brazil, and Mbwana
Matumla (19-4) won the
Intercontinental bantamweight
title against Ugandan Festus
Omondi.

Luka Popovic
Manager of Goran Delic.
Mr. Luka Popovic has worked
tirelessly to advance the career
of UBO world cruiserweight
champion Goran Delic, and been
instrumental in staging six UBO
title fights for his boxer.
Delic won the Intercontinental
title in 2006, and made one
successful defence before
winning the world title in 2007.

Goran Delic vs. Michele De Meo
July 8, Banja Luka, Bosnia &
Herzegovina. 12.000 spectators.
The world cruiserweight title
fight between Goran Delic and
Italian challenger Michele De
Meo on July 8 attracted more
than 12.000 spectators to the
Gradski Stadium in Banja Luka,
Bosnia & Herzegovina. The fight
itself was good, but the event
was spectacular, and loads of
VIP’s, including members of the
government, and local
celebrities were seen at
ringside. Delic won a unanimous
decision, in what was his second
defence of the title. He is
currently undefeated at 14-0.
