On March 23 at the City Sportshall in Szekszard, former UBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight
Champion, and hometown favorite, Gabor Halasz will
take on former nemesis Zoltan Beres, a 1992
Olympic bronze medalist, for the vacant
International title recently relinquished by New
Zealand’s David Aloua.
Halasz (32-15, 12 KOs), nicknamed “Big Daddy
Fisherman”, won his first UBO title at the same
venue in 2011, but was not able to defend that
belt and had to vacate. He has not lost a bout
since on his way to another crack, racking up five
straight victories, including a decision over
Beres last year.
Zoltan Beres (44-47-3, 17 KOs) has fought some of
the biggest names in European boxing, including
world champions Firat Arslan, Tomasz Adamek,
Silvio Branco and Mohamed Benguesmia. Having
challenged for a slew of championships during a
long career, he will be looking to finish on a
high note by bringing the UBO International title
with him back to Budapest.

Two days earlier, at the Gentleman Fight Club
Boxing House in Budapest,
reigning European Heavyweight Champion Zoltan
Petranyi (48-20, 14 KOs) will be making his
second defense against compatriot Attila Palko
(16-4, 13 KOs).
Petranyi, who is also the head of Profibox-Promotions,
won the UBO European title by stopping another
Hungarian, Laszlo Toth, in January 2011, and
since defended the crown by getting rid of
Romanian challenger Zoltan Somosi in two rounds
in January 2012.
26-year-old Attila Palko challenged for the WBF
World Cruiserweight title last September, but
had to succumb to former UBO Youth Champion
Hizni Altunkaya in Germany. He has since fought
once, travelling to Senegal to defeat local
heavyweight Christophe Mbaye by fourth round
knockout.
