UBO - Universal Boxing Organization™

After South Sudan declared independence from the northern part of Sudan, Algeria is now the biggest country on the African continent. And it’s getting bigger in sports too, particularly in boxing. On June 28 in the city of Guelma, under the auspices of the Algerian Federation of Boxing, the country will host a Universal Boxing Organization™ World Title fight.

Local hero, and massive puncher, Mohamed Benguesmia (39-3-1, 32 KOs) will face former UBO World Cruiserweight Champion Laszlo Hubert (32-11, 22 KOs) from Hungary for the vacant UBO World Heavyweight title in what is bound to be an impressive event.

While sports in general are progressing in Algeria for various reasons, it is a fact that professional boxing is enjoying its success due to the leadership of the boxing federation of Dr. Abdellah Bessalem, a very passionate and knowledgeable man who knows all the ins and outs of African boxing due to his time in the African Boxing Confederation.

The promoter of the June 28 show is the manager of Benguesmia, Mohammed Guenif, who is eager to have his protégée fight for the UBO title and join a list of champions that include the legendary Roy Jones Jr., one of the best boxers of all time.

UBO title-challenger Mohamed Benguesmia

Benguesmia, who represented the Algerian national amateur team for several years and competed in almost every international competition worth mentioning, including the Olympics, turned professional in 1997 in the USA where his most notable fights were a victory over future world champion O´Neil Bell and a loss to Hall-Of-Fame-bound Antonio Tarver.

He later captured several titles at Cruiserweight, but the bout against Hubert will be his first crack at a championship in his new division, Heavyweight. Benguesmia has not lost a fight in over twelve years, and will be considered a solid favorite against the equally experienced Hubert.

Unlike Benguesmia, Laszlo Hubert has ventured into the Heavyweight division before. Besides several non-title bouts, he captured the World Boxing Federation International belt in 2010 before moving back down to lift the UBO World Cruiserweight title later that year.

Now Hubert is ready to go for his second world championship, and will be travelling to Algeria full of confidence after a first round victory over countryman Zoltan Peto earlier this month. It shapes up to be an interesting encounter, and the passionate boxing fans in Algeria will undoubtedly be turning up in massive numbers.

The Mohamed Benguesmia vs. Laszlo Hubert UBO World Title fight is supported by the Wali of Guelma, as a contribution to the greatness and excellence of Algeria. With this big event Algeria enters a closed circle of African countries that has staged major boxing events.
