Benguesmia, who represented the Algerian national
amateur team for several years and competed in
almost every international competition worth
mentioning, including the Olympics, turned
professional in 1997 in the USA where his most
notable fights were a victory over future world
champion O´Neil Bell and a loss to
Hall-Of-Fame-bound Antonio Tarver.
He later captured several titles at Cruiserweight,
but the bout against Hubert will be his first
crack at a championship in his new division,
Heavyweight. Benguesmia has not lost a fight in
over twelve years, and will be considered a solid
favorite against the equally experienced Hubert.
Unlike Benguesmia, Laszlo Hubert has ventured into
the Heavyweight division before. Besides several
non-title bouts, he captured the World Boxing
Federation International belt in 2010 before
moving back down to lift the UBO World
Cruiserweight title later that year.
Now Hubert is ready to go for his second world
championship, and will be travelling to Algeria
full of confidence after a first round victory
over countryman Zoltan Peto earlier this month. It
shapes up to be an interesting encounter, and the
passionate boxing fans in Algeria will undoubtedly
be turning up in massive numbers.
The Mohamed Benguesmia vs. Laszlo Hubert UBO World
Title fight is supported by the Wali of Guelma, as
a contribution to the greatness and excellence of
Algeria. With this big event Algeria enters a
closed circle of African countries that has staged
major boxing events.
