UBO - Universal Boxing Organization™

The Universal Boxing Organization™ European Heavyweight title fight scheduled for this past Sunday (6.10) in Budapest, Hungary was called off at the last minute when challenger Danny Williams amazingly slipped in the shower in his hotel room just hours before the bout, hit his head and sustained a cut over his right eye.

While it sounds like something out of a bad movie, it is never the less the truth and defending champion Zoltan Petranyi, also the promoter of the show, was forced to take the microphone and inform the disappointed spectators of the bad news. Williams also spoke to the fans at ringside, saying:

“I went in the shower, the floor was wet and I slipped and hit my head on the sink. I got a big gash over my eye, so the ambulance came and the doctor came, and unfortunately I have to pull out of this fight.”

“God willing Zoltan is going to make the fight in September instead. I am really, really sorry. I love your country and I really wanted to perform for you tonight but it just wasn’t to be. I’m really sorry.”

Sunday was also the birthday of Petranyi, and it goes without saying that he had hoped for a better present from the boxing Gods. The fight was also called off last year, although not at this short notice, when Williams had to withdraw due to unspecified personal reasons.

The Universal Boxing Organization™ wants to express its sympathy to both boxers, and hope they eventually get in the ring with each other again. This was supposed to be a rematch of their 2005 encounter, where Petranyi (47-20, 14 KOs) stepped in at short notice and Williams (44-11, 33 KOs) won by third round stoppage.
