As has become
custom, the Universal Boxing Organization each year recognizes
boxers, promoters, fights etc. The following is the 2008 UBO
Boxing Awards. |

Boxer Of The Year |

Evans Ashira
Evans "The African
Warrior" Ashira won the UBO Intercontinental super welterweight
title on April 19 2008 when he stopped former European champion
Mamadou Thiam in six explosive rounds.
Ashira once fought
Joe Calzaghe for the WBO SUPER middleweight title, and went the
full distance with the legendary Welshman.
Record: 29-3.

Hamada Mohamed Hassan
Undefeated Egyptian
banger Hamada Mohamed Hassan showed his potential on May 11 by
going ten rounds and winning the UBO International super
middleweight title in only his sixth professional contest.
Record: 7-0.

Ashira vs. Thiam
The Ashira vs. Thiam
fight turned out to be all action from the first bell to the
ending in round six when Ashira knocked the Frenchman out with a
left hook.
While non of the two are "spring chickens", Ashira and Thiam
showed that they both wanted the UBO title badly.

Ljubomir Vidovic
Staging two defences
for UBO world cruiserweight champion Goran Delic in 2008, in
front of massive crowds, Bosnian promoter Ljubomir Vidovic is
well-deserving of this award.

Manager Of The Year |

Eddie Basajja Basira.
Manager and promoter of UBO world champions Peter Semo (Light
Welterweight) and Abdu Tebazalwa (Featherweight)
Mr.
Basira staged a title twin-bill in December 2008 in Kampala,
Uganda featuring Semo and Tebazalwa in UBO world title fights.
