Late bloomer Charles, who spots a misleading
12-5-2 (4) record, has had his ups and downs as a
boxer. After winning his first four pro bouts, he
lost his next four, and after two years in the
game he certainly didn’t come across as a future
world champion.
But since then he has gone 8-1-2, winning several
championships in the process, and will now get the
opportunity to capture the UBO world title in
front of a home crowd. And Charles plans to leave
no stone unturned in getting ready for what will
be his first, and maybe last, chance to achieve
his ultimate dream as a boxer:
“I now have more than four months to prepare,
which is great, and I am going to set up training
camp in Santiago, Cuba, where I have been several
times”, Charles told Richard Cloutier of
Le Trait d'Union.
“I always wanted to be a world champion, and I
would love to win the UBO title and have the
opportunity to defend it in front of my fans”.
In 2009 Charles won the Quebec Boxing Council
Middleweight title, and the following year he
moved up to Super Middleweight to win the Canadian
national title. This past June he added the WBC
Latino title at 160 Lbs. to his collection by
knocking out Mexican Edgar Ruiz at the same venue
where he will go for the UBO world championship in
April.
