Tanzanian Francis Cheka won the vacant UBO
Intercontinental middleweight title on Saturday March
1st, when he knocked out fellow countryman Hassan
Matumla in the 10th round of a show at the Diamond
Jubilee Hall in Dar Es Salaam.
Promoter of the fight was Sadic & Co. Ltd. & Sass
Marketing Group, and supervision performed by the
Pugilistic Syndicate Of Tanzania in cooperation with the
UBO.
It was a heated affair between two hugely popular local
rivals. The bout started on even terms, but saw Cheka
take over as the rounds progressed. In round nine Cheka
floored Matumla, but the game co-challenger got up and
made it through the round.
In round 10 Cheka knocked down Matumla again, and this
time referee Anthony Ruta stopped the fight. Cheka took
his record to 14-5-1 (9) and Matumla fell to 14-7 (9).
Judges were George Ngalula, Omari Yazidu and Jerome
Waluza. UBO supervisor: Emmanuel Mlundwa.
