It will be the first
crack
at a world title for Menard (16-1, 12 KOs), the
reigning UBO All-America champion, while Laryea
(14-5, 11 KOs) fought Ricky Burns in Scotland for
the WBO Super Featherweight title in his last
fight.
Only 22 years old, “Rock Hard Mighty” Mason Menard
has been on a fast-track to his shot at world
honors. The Rayne favorite has racked up fourteen
straight victories since losing his third pro
outing, and collected the Louisiana state and UBO
All-America titles
along the way.
In his latest fight Menard won an eight-round
unanimous decision at the Rayne Civic Center over
last minute Substitute Aaron Anderson.
Joseph “Mandingo” Laryea (26) is the more
experienced of the two, having won the Ghanaian
national title last year before travelling to
Scotland to pick up the WBO Inter-Continental 130
Lb. championship with an impressive victory over
the 16-1 Paul Appleby last December.
The victory over Appleby set up his World title
shot against Burns in March, but Laryea came
unstuck when he was forced to retire before the
eighth round with a hand injury.
Now he takes his third trip abroad in less than
eight months in his quest for a world
championship, this time one weight class higher.
The
main supporting fight
will feature 18 year old undefeated Light
Middleweight prospect Bobby “The Prodigy” Bryant
(11-0, 8 KOs) in an eight rounder.
Also on the show will be crowd-pleasing Light
Heavyweight Bailey Bobbit (4-1, 2 KOs) and
promising undefeated upstarts Quantis Graves (3-0,
1 KO) and Josh Joseph (2-0, 1 KO).
