25-year old Barthelemy is considered one of the
most exiting prospects in the game, and has so far
compiled an undefeated 12-0 (10) record since
turning professional in 2009 and signing with Leon
Margules and Warriors Boxing Promotions.
The Barthelemy vs. Robles UBO title fight is part
of Warriors Boxing’s “Fight Nights at The
Cosmopolitan” which will also include a Light
Welterweight World title eliminator between Victor
Cayo (26-1, 18 KOs) and Lamont Peterson (28-1-1,
14 KOs), as well as the return of Edison “Pantera”
Miranda (34-5, 29 KOs) in a ten-round Light
Heavyweight bout against another Cuban, Yordanis
Despaigne (8-1, 4 KOs). ESPN will televise.
Rances Barthelemy is the younger brother of 2004
Olympic Champion Yan Barthelemy, now also a pro in
the US, but didn’t get a chance to win the
ultimate amateur prize himself as he defected to
the States prior to the 2008 Beijing games, and
could not represent the US due to still being a
Cuban national. He won his debut in 13 seconds,
and has since continued to impress ringsiders with
his crowd-pleasing style.
Gerardo Robles is on a five-fight winning streak,
and has won eleven of his last thirteen bouts. His
overall pro ledger is mediocre (14-9, 6 KOs) after
losing seven of his first ten fights, one of which
was against current world lightweight champion
Brandon Rios, but his recent good form suggests
that he will be the toughest challenge so far for
“Kid Blast”. |
