“Fitzgerald has been doing a lot of talking in the
press without actually fighting anyone. I will
give him a shot at my UBO Middleweight Title in
his own back yard”, the Monroe, Michigan native
told local press recently.
While spotting a relatively mediocre 12-2-1 (4)
professional record, 25-year-old Fitzgerald has
shown good form as of late, and won the European
title in his last outing by stopping Frenchman
Affif Belgecham in five rounds. He has also won
the Irish title at super middleweight, and the WBF
Intercontinental middleweight strap.
But the Irishman’s experience doesn’t compare to
that of McKart, a three-time World Champion (WBO,
IBA, UBO) with a 53-9-1 (32) ledger and big names
on his resume.
“Fitzgerald claims he is being ducked by top
fighters, well I have no problem stepping in the
squared circle with him, he hasn’t fought anyone
with my experience, and I have been in with the
best in Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik and Alex Buenma”,
said the Southpaw Michiganian, and continues:
“Fitzgerald has been stopped in the past and I
have no doubt in my mind that I can stop him
within the distance and give the Irish fight fans
a world class performance.”
McKart won the UBO World title last October,
stopping Michi Munoz in seven rounds in Monroe,
and, not impressed with Fitzgerald’s last
performance, it wouldn’t faze him at all if a
fight between the two is made in Ireland:
“I saw the (Belgecham) fight on YouTube and felt
the stoppage was premature. He missed with a
disproportionate amount of punches and used his
head whenever he got the chance. I have the
experience to nullify this dirty type of
fighting.” |
