A packed and sold-out arena of more than 3000
spectators witnessed a thrilling encounter with
back and forth action from the first bell. A
determined champion, and a game challenger who
came to win, brought the crowd to their feet on
numerous occasions as the momentum continued to
shift.
Jacobus finally got the upper hand as the two
gladiators entered the championship rounds, and
managed to drop his South American opponent with a
right hand. As the referee concluded that Junior
was unable to continue, the crowd went into a
frenzy, and a massive celebration of their boxing
hero erupted.
Kali Jacobus, ahead on all three scorecards at the
time of the stoppage, improved his professional
record to 15-3 (11), while proud warrior Rocky
Junior dropped to 11-2 (6). This was the
champion’s second defense of the UBO World title.
The event had the entire island of Vanuatu going
boxing-crazy since the arrival of Rocky Junior,
and thankfully the fight lived up to the hype. Had
a bigger venue been available, it is estimated
that at least three times as many tickets could
have been sold, which is amazing considering the
fact that only around 40.000 people lives in Port
Vila. |
