Junior, also a former Sao Paolo State and Mercosur
Champion, brings an impressive 11-1 (6)
professional record, with his only defeat coming
against former European Light Middleweight
Champion Ryan Rhodes.
Jacobus, 14-3 (10), was originally scheduled to
defend the UBO World title in February. However,
hurricanes and venue problems put a stop to that
plan, but now all is set to go for next Saturday.
The fight will be promoted by Wesley Rasu.
“I entered this sport with the goal of becoming a
world champion one day, and I am very excited
about getting the opportunity against Jacobus”,
said Junior before leaving Sao Paolo Monday
morning.
“I will do everything I can to bring the belt back
to Brazil, and I am very confident that I will be
successful”.
Jose Cleverton de Melo Junior, as is his full
birth name, turned professional in 2004 and won
the Sao Paolo State title and the Mercosur title,
a regional championship for boxers from Brazil,
Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, in 2007.
In 2008 he added the WBC Mundo Hispano title to
his collection with a unanimous decision over
Oscar Samudio from Paraguay.
Junior never defended the WBC regional belt, but
has since scored four non-title victories, three
of them in Argentina, against the one bad night
versus Rhodes in England.
