If successful in his Universal Boxing Organization™ All-America lightweight title defense this Saturday night (3.12) against Florida’s Anthony Napunyi, Mason Menard hopes that a shot at the UBO World title will be next. Menard (14-1, 12 KOs) is pumped up and ready to take the Hilton Towers in Lafayette, Louisiana by storm, keeping in mind that only victory will keep his dream of a world championship in the near future alive.

“It’s in the air and it’s being talked about,” Menard told the Acadia Parish Today of a possible world title fight. “I’ve trained really hard for this fight. I have to go in there and impress everybody, put on a good show and come out victorious so I can get my shot at my first world title.”

Menard’s promoter Chad Broussard, a former champion boxer himself, shares that goal with his boxer, saying:

“The UBO commission will be on hand for the fight and I’ve been haggling with them for months about getting my kid a world title fight. So, pending the outcome, we could possibly have a shot to fight for a world title right here in Lafayette.”

Napunyi (14-9, 7 KOs) comes in as a late replacement, and the champion admits he is not quite sure what to expect from his challenger:

“Honestly, I don’t know much about him at all. I don’t know how tall he is, I don’t know how big he is going to be. But all that really doesn’t matter because I’m preparing myself for 10 rounds of fighting and that’s what it will be if I don’t get him out before then.”

Rumble On The River, Menard vs. Napunyi, March 12 2011, Hilton Towers, Lafayette, Louisiana!

Saturday nights “Rumble On The River” is presented by Chad Broussard’s Boxncar Promotions, and will feature a total of six interesting bouts starting at 7:30 PM. The Weigh-In will take place 3PM Friday in the lobby of the Hilton, and boxing fans are invited to come and watch.
