Ribchev (7-2, 3 KOs) won the Bulgarian title last
summer, and is coming off the best victory of his
professional career. In December he went to
Switzerland and beat former European
title-challenger Blas Miguel Martinez from Spain,
and he will be looking to build on that success by
taking the UBO title in his hometown.
Ribchev’s two setbacks came against very good
opposition; undefeated Pole Dariusz Sek and former
World amateur champion Jack Culcay from Germany,
and both times Ribchev did well and only lost by
decisions away from home.
His opponent on February 20, Jurijs Boreiko, is,
despite his less than stellar, and very much
deceiving, record, a very dangerous task for
Ribchev.
While entering this fight at 15-22-1 (11), Boreiko
is a former TWBA Champion and has beaten the likes
of German Champion Marco Shulze (14-0-1), African
Champion Hassan Saku (8-1), Swedish prospect
Tonton Semakala (15-0), and German hopeful Arthur
Matern (4-0). He also holds a draw with Brazilian
Champion Marcus Vinicius de Oliveira (14-0).
The Latvian puncher has won three of his last four
bouts, with the loss coming on points in a EBA
European title fight against Sebastien Madani
(28-1) in France. Earlier in his career he has
fought a regular who’s-who of European top-names,
getting the wrong end of a majority decisions
against current IBF World Champion Jan Zavec and
then WBC International title-holder Alpaslan
Aguzum. |
