Mexican rivals Karol Mazariegos and Esmeralda Gaona will fight for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) world Flyweight title on June 14 in Zacamulpa, just outside Mexico City.

The fight headlines a show promoted by CIB Boxing Promotions at the Auditorio De La Comunidad, and will be broadcast by TVC Deportes.

Mazariegos, who enters the fight at 8-3-1 (3), has experience from fighting world class opponents, and her three defeats have all come against top class foes.

In 2021 she lost to current WBC, WBA, WBO & IBF world champion Gabriela Fundora, the only opponent who managed to stop Mazariegos.

In 2024 she came up short in WBO regional title fights against Eveling Ortega in Nicaragua and Laura Wollenmann in Switzerland, losing decisions after competitive fights in their home-town.

Sagahon (8-6-2) has also proved her worth in competitive fights against world class opposition, but, much like Mazariegos, she has still to make a decisive breakthrough.

Last time out, in April of last year, she came out on the wrong end of a split decision after a tough fight for the WBC Silver Light Flyweight title against Maria Soledad Vargas.

This is a very evenly matched fight between two boxers who are desperate to become world champion, and hell-bend on making sure they make the most of the opportunity.
