Into The Lions Den! Patel Fights Awuku For UBO World Title In Ghana

Promoted by BROWNED WORLDWIDE in association with Box Office Sports Promotion, Great Britain's Prince Patel (31-1-2, 26 KOs) is going into enemy territory to fight local hero Maxwell Awuku (50-5-1, 34 KOs) for the vacant UBO world Welterweight title.

Amazingly, less than a year ago Patel, of Indian heritage, won the IBO world title at Bantamweight, also in Accra, defeating undefeated Aliu Bamidele Lasisi from Nigeria.

He then, almost unfathomable, moved up six divisions, and November 24 will be his third bout at Welterweight. It should be noted that the drastic jump up the weight-classes is a result of training while not cutting weight, and not due to being out of shape and eating.

The 31-year-old from London is also a former UBO and WBF world champion at Bantamweight, titles he won in 2019, as well as a former WBO Global titlist, Commonwealth champion and holder of various WBO, WBA, WBC and UBO regional titles.

Former WBO Africa and WBA Pan Africa champion Maxwell Awuku has not yet achieved world honours, but he is used to competing at a very high level.

In 2018 he lost a challenge for the WBC world Super Featherweight title against Miguel Berchelt in Mexico, after which he too started to move up the divisions.

Coming off four straight victories, he sees this as a big opportunity to become world champion in front of his fellow countrymen at one of the most famous venues in Africa, and with fans watching across the world on their TV screens.

It will be very interesting to see how Patel will cope with 5000 fans screaming their support for his opponent, and how Awuku will handle the pressure of his supporters hoping he can secure another world title for Ghana.
