Universal Boxing
Organization world bantamweight champion Nick
“Kanyankole” Otieno retained his title on Saturday
March 3, with a convincing seventh round stoppage of local
rival Twalib Mubiru at the ballroom of the Grand Regency
Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
This was a hotly
antisipated rematch, as Otieno captured the vacant belt
last year with a very close split decision over Mubiru.
The fight started
at a high pace, with the two going toe-to-toe but with
Otieno the most effective. He rattled Mubiru already in
the first round, and seemed determined not to let this
bout go to the scorecards. He continued his dominance as
the fight progressed, and in the seventh referee Wycliffe
Marende had seen enough and stepped in to save the brave
Mubiru, who was stopped on his feet.
With the victory
Otieno improved his undefeated record to 10-0 (2), and he
continues to be a proud asset for the UBO. The show was
promoted by Osaga Promotions in cooperation with Jab Jab
Promotions.
