Finnish veteran Kai “Ironman” Kauramaki will face Tanzanian champion Francis Cheka for the vacant UBO Intercontinental super middleweight title on January 13 at the Porvoon Urheiluhalli in Porvoo, Finland. Jannax Boxing Promotions will stage the fight.

Kauramaki (12-11), who turned professional back in 1998, will be aiming to win his careers first title, after failing in bids for the Finnish, IBF International, EBU-EU and IBF Mediterranean crowns, and he is reportedly coming very motivated to the bout. At 39 years of age this could be his last opportunity to capture a belt for the mantelpiece, but he shouldn’t expect an easy nights work in Porvoo.

Cheka, 13 years Kauramaki´s junior at 26, won the Tanzanian championship earlier this year with a second-round destruction of Mbwana Ally. Before that he went five hard rounds with IBF # 1 challenger Robert Stieglitz in Germany, so he has been in with one of the best and will know what to expect fighting abroad.

The Stieglitz bout was for the IBF Intercontinental title, so now Cheka will be coming with all guns blazing to finally bring a title back to his native Tanzania. With a record of 11 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, the African will be considered the favorite of this main event of a six-bout card.
