ASHIRA STOPS THIAM, WINS UBO TITLE

Evans Ashira won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization Intercontinental super welterweight title on Saturday 19 April in Fredriksund, Denmark, when he stopped former European title-holder Mamadou Thiam in the sixth round.

It was a very entertaining bout that saw the local man end matters with a left hook after one minute and five seconds on the sixth.

Ashira took his impressive record to 29-3, 15 knockouts, and Thiam fell to 42-7, 39 knockouts.

These two have both previously fought for world titles against living legends, Ashira loosing a decision to Joe Calzaghe and Thiam falling short against Felix Trinidad.

UBO Supervisor was Torben Seeman, referee: Soren Saugman, Judges: Hans Larsen, Berit Andreasen and Jan Christensen.

Promoter of the fight was Larsen Boxing.
