Arlenn “Torita” Sanchez Aguirre stepped in on short notice, but is now the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) world Flyweight champion after defeating compatriot Karol Mazariegos on Saturday, June 14.

Mazariegos was originally scheduled to face Esmeralda Gaona for the vacant title, but when she pulled out Aguirre got the opportunity, and grabbed it with both hands.

In the main event of a show promoted by CIB Boxing Promotions at the Auditorio De La Comunidad in Zacamulpa, not far from Mexico City, the two ladies gave the fans an exciting fight, very much worthy of its billing.

After ten rounds of action judges Diana Gonzalez and Martin Alvarez both scored the bout 97-93 for Sanchez Aguirre, while judge Margarita Pozos had it 98-92 for Mazariegos, making it an upset victory by split decision for the underdog.

27-year-old Sanchez Aguirre, who has proven her worth in competitive fights against other world class foes but had yet to make a real breakthrough, improves her deceiving professional record to 7-7-4 (1).

Mazariegos drops to 8-4-1 (3) but at only twenty-three has plenty of time to rebound, and a rematch against the new world champion would not be far-fetched.
