Pasquale Barile won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Youth Welterweight title in devastating fashion on Friday night, April 11, at the PalaTorrino in Rome, Italy, defeating compatriot Patrizio Santini.

The fight was one of the featured contests of a show promoted by De Carolis Promotions, headed by former WBA world champion Giovanni De Carolis, and presented in association with ASD Boxe Massai.

In a very interesting first round Barile (23) was tricky on the back foot most of the time, with Santini (24) coming forward and working his jab. But Barile fired off some impressive flurries, and landed the harder punches.

It was the same pattern in round two, with Barile boxing magnificently going backwards, and home-town man Santini trying to set the tone but getting caught by hard counter-shots from the smaller man.

It came to a dramatic end early in round three when Barile landed several hooks, stunning Santini, and then followed up with a massive flurry to send Santini down and completely out. Referee Roberto Scali immediately waved it off.

Seeing his opponent in bad shape, the new UBO champion showed concern and incredible sportsmanship, and resisted celebrating while medical personnel attended to Santini, even offering him water from his bottle.

Looking very much like a puncher, amazingly this was the first stoppage victory in the professional career of Barile, who improved his record to a deceiving 8-4 (1). Santini falls to 13-3 (2).
